Welcome
to the Jomon University
The first nature-based, open education hub in Japan dedicated to Jōmon Ecological Wisdom
A University Without Walls Rooted in 12,000 Years of Sustainable Living.
From the birthplace of Jomon in the heart of Japan to the world.
There was once a time when humanity lived in such perfect rhythm with the Earth that the line between "nature" and "home" simply did not exist. For over 10,000 years, the Jomon people thrived across the Japanese archipelago, creating what many now consider the most sustainable civilization to ever grace our planet.
We are an open, place-based, nature-rooted learning ecosystem, grounded in the landscapes of one of Japan’s most important Jōmon archaeological regions. Our classrooms are forests, rivers, fields, and seasonal cycles. Our teachers include researchers, farmers, elders, artists, and the land itself.
Join us at Jomon University, where knowledge here is not owned.
It is circulated, shared, and lived.
Our Ecological Wisdom : The Jomon Way
Modern society often tells a single story of progress: agriculture, cities, industry, growth. Archaeological and ecological research reveals that the Jōmon people practiced advanced landscape management, seasonal harvesting, and forest nurturing.
The J0mon people cultivated relationships with the forests, not monocultures.
Managed forests, tended nut trees, and enriched ecosystems—without exhausting them. They proved that long-term human flourishing without ecological collapse is possible.
the Jomon University is for:
Educators and researchers who are seeking a nature-based approach.
Creatives, farmers, changemakers, and anyone aim for regenerative living.
